Joyce Manor Announces New Kurt Ballou Produced Album Million Dollars to Kill Me for September 2018 Release

Joyce Manor have announced their fifth full-length album, Million Dollars to Kill Me, will be released September 21 via Epitaph, Pitchfork reports. The new record is produced by Converge’s Kurt Ballou at GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts and mixed by Andrew Scheps who has worked with Weezer, AFI and Green Day.

Joyce Manor hail from Torrance, California and have previously released 4 albums including Joyce Manor (2011), Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired (2012), Never Hungover Again (2014) and Cody (2016).

While recording the new album, members Barry Johnson (guitarist, vocalist), Chase Knobbe (guitarist), Matt Ebert (bassist), and Pat Ware (drummer) fostered creative collaboration by sleeping above the studio in bunk beds. Johnson says the experience “kinda felt like camp.”

The group have released the first single, “Million Dollars to Kill Me,” as well as a lyric video created by Eric Richter. Paste reports the track runs just over two minutes and bounces along with a punk-pop beat. Lyrics like “And one day you will realize / you are nothing, nothing without her/ You’re an asshole from a bar on a break in a break room / And you’re never happy,” center around emotional reflections and relationship challenges.

Additionally, Joyce Manor announced a 22-date headline tour, which kicks off October 9 in Woodstock, NY and runs through November 3 in San Francisco, CA. The band will also headline the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on January 19.
