Big Data, has released a new song called “Evolution Once Again” and has announced his third album, 3.0, set to be released this fall. The new album is a follow up to his 2015 debut album 2.0, which featured collaborations with Kimbra, Rivers Cuomo, Twin Shadow, and Jamie Lidell.
The new song is a perfect blend of disco, electronic, and soul music, reshaping the way people listen to music. In a press release, it is stated that the new album “..is successful in asking the listener to step back and really look at their own modern-day confusion between technology and reality; with songs that groove to the exciting and terrifying next steps in our evolution.”
In an interview with Billboard, he discussed the new song, stating “the character singing the song is the forlorn computer scientist who feels abandoned by the AI he has created, which has now left him (and all of humanity) far behind.” He continues to talk about his recording process. “I intentionally kept, and in some cases featured, a lot of the human imperfections from my recording process — things like the squeaks of my chair when I played the Wurlitzer, or my foot tapping along, or the saxophones playing some of the “wrong” notes.”
Big Data is the pop brainchild of artist/producer Alan Wilkis. In 2014, Alan achieved the #1 alternative hit for the song “Dangerous (feat. Joywave)”, which was also certified Gold. The electronic pop artist has been receiving great praises for his style of music. Entertainment Weekly stated “Big Data brings internet paranoia to the pop charts … combining the disco bounce that Daft Punk have helped reintroduce into the pop conversation with the harsh distorted sounds of post hardcore bands like Shellac.” Listen to “Evolution Once Again” below.
