Interpol has been rocking our hearts since 1997 when they formed in New York and they have yet to quit. In a recent press release, the band has announced and released a new music video for their song “The Rover,” which was directed by Gerardo Naranjo of Narcos. The video was filmed on location in Mexico City with the focal point being Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s character as a cult leader. Check out the video below.
The video opens silent and looming as the video presents itself with a beginning shot of of credits against a darkened background. Sound starts suddenly and one can hear charge of a flash camera. Someone talks to Ebon’s character as he fumbles out of a car enraged. Passerbys pick him up and the music begins with a classic rock drum beat rolls through distorted guitar and an eery lead guitar. We see a witch doctor heal the ailments of the character as shots of him and his crowd rove through the streets of Mexico City sparse itself between the footage of the healing process. A workers’ protest enters, a shot of a subway flashes and Ebon’s crowd cheers through the streets during a press event. A separate man talks of his music, talking about his career while Ebon walks forward. Their heads touch and a moment is theirs before he just walks away into his Cult-esque world.
The video is a beautiful representation of the city of Mexico City with all its vibrant colors and people full of culture and celebration. If anything, this video would be a great double as a tourist commercial to entice visitors to a city of beauty.
This video is not some random single of Interpol’s, though. In fact, the band is releasing a new album this summer that will be out on a late August 24th via the legendary Matador Records. In support of this new album release, Interpol will also be going on a world tour. See the dates below.
