Following his Saturday Night Live performance of “This is America,” Childish Gambino has released two new summer-infused, mellow pop songs, “Summertime Magic” and “Feels Like Summer,” according to Billboard.
The tracks are co-written and co-produced by Childish Gambino and Ludwig Goransson, who also produced “This is America,” which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. All three tracks are expected to be on the same project recorded under the Gambino moniker later this year.
In January, Grammy, Golden Globe and Atlanta creator Donald Glover confirmed he would lay Childish Gambino to rest after the upcoming record, and reiterated the importance of creative evolution, saying, “I think if a lot of things had death clauses in them, we wouldn’t have a lot of problems in the world, to be honest. I think ending are good because they force things to get better.”
Childish Gambino has released three studio albums including Camp (2011), Because the Internet (2013) and Awaken, My Love (2016). During a recent interview with Complex, Glover discusses his music career and how all rappers are just artists, saying, “Rappers don’t want to be rappers. They’re usually artists who want to do a bunch of stuff. I don’t think any rapper wants to be just a rapper.”
He goes on to discuss the music industry as a whole, saying, “I believe that music has just become advertising for a brand, and if that makes music less magical, then fuck you. I understand people being like, ‘I worked really hard on this song and I’d like some payment for it.’ It just needs to be done differently.”
Gambino is set to embark on an extensive North American tour this fall, Fader reports, alongside Rae Sremmurd. The tour begins September 6 in Atlanta, and in October, Sremmurd will leave the tour and be replaced by Vince Staples.
