Arctic Monkeys Shares Cover of Elvis Costello’s “Lipstick Vogue”

As they make their way across Europe in a tour supporting their latest record Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino, the ever-beloved alt-rock outfit Arctic Monkeys decided to give a well-deserved shoutout to English musician and legend Elvis Costello.

Last night during a performance in Lyon, France, the Monkeys surprised fans with more than just their extensive catalogue of original songs, with a splendid mid-setlist cover of Costello’s 1978 track “Lipstick Vogue,” following the musician’s recent announcement that he was recovering from surgery to remove a “small but very aggressive cancerous malignancy.”

Frontman Alex Turner dedicated the song to the musician in his introduction. “It’s a cover of Elvis Costello and The Attractions, and we’d have dedicated this song to a friend of ours who is in the audience tonight,” said Turner. “But tonight, it’s for the man himself.”

Earlier this month, Costello announced that he was canceling the remainder of his current European tour following the diagnosis. As of now, his scheduled fall North American tour will continue as planned. Costello thanked the Arctic Monkeys for the shoutout on Twitter.
