Yamantaka // Sonic Titan Announces Fall 2018 Tour Dates

Earlier this year, the Canadian experimental music and performance art collective known as Yamantaka//Sonic Titan released their third studio album entitled Dirt. Today, the band has announced plans to take their collective on a North American tour to support their album.

They are calling the tour, Dirt: North American Tour II: The Dirtening and it begins on July 21st at the Dawson City Music Festival and will wrap up on October 25th in Hamilton Ontario. Their tour itinerary sees the band making stops in Brooklyn, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. For the full list of tour dates, scroll down below. Before the band embarks on their newly released round of shows, they will dive into a few festival gigs including the Dawson City Music Festival, Asinabka Festival, Camp Wavelength and Festival de Musique Émergente.

Dirt follows YT//ST’s sophomore effort UZU. According to the press statement, “While DIRT is poised to be the band’s most narratively ambitious project yet, the album is nevertheless a masterful leap in their musical evolution.

Yamantaka // Sonic Titan formed in Montreal, Quebec and includes core members Ruby Kato Attwood and Alaska B. Their supporting members include John Ancheta on bass and acoustic guitar, Ange Loft and Walter Scott (who left in 2011) on vocals, Shub Roy (who left the band in 2011 as well) on guitar, Brendan Swanson on keyboards, Alana Ruth (who left the band in 2013) on lights, Daniel Elis and Chase Los as dancers and Aylwin Lo as a projectionist. Their band name, Yamantaka, means “lord of death,” and it is a reference to the Buddhist deity of the same name.

The group doesn’t fit into one category or even one artistic discipline. It functions as a Noh-Wave prog collective, YT//ST combines Asian diasporic and Indigenous influences with rock sludge and pop sensibilities. According to mxdwn, the band “is more than willing to blend extreme music, pop, and far eastern influences into a veritable melting pot of sound.”

If you haven’t bought your copy of Dirt yet, you can purchase the album now via Paper Bag Records.
