St. Lucia, the project of South African singer and musician Jean-Philip Grobler, kicks off a new fall North American tour this September, opening with two dates in Grobler’s adopted hometown of New York City. His first hit single, “Elevate”, featured on his debut full-length album, When the Night, brought St. Lucia into the spotlight. St. Lucia went on to a US and Australian tour in 2014, soon after When the Night released. Since the release of their first album, St. Lucia has put out their sophomore album, Matter, featuring “Dancing on Glass” and “Physical.” The band has also made its rounds on the festival circuit, performing at major festivals like Lollapalooza and Coachella.
Grobler made his mark in music and even history at an early age, singing the national anthem with the Drakensberg Boys Choir in front of Nelson Mandela at the 1995 rugby World Cup – a symbolic moment as it was South Africa’s first international play after the end of apartheid. He moved to Brooklyn after studying music in England, eventually performing under the name of St. Lucia. The high energy, synth-pop sounds that St. Lucia delivers to its fans are irresistible and create a truly immersive, engaging show. Preceding the fall tour release, St. Lucia dropped two new singles, “A Brighter Love” and “Paradise Is Waiting.” Of the new songs, Grobler says, “‘Paradise is Waiting’ might be the most epic thing we’ve ever done, and ‘A Brighter Love’ is probably the sparsest…we felt like these two best represent the extremes of our new music.” With a teaser like that, fans will be eagerly awaiting the new album, currently pending a release date.
