Gang Gang Dance Announces Fall 2018 Tour Dates

New York Experimental rock band Gang Gang Dance recently released their album, Kazuashita, via 4AD, their first album in seven years. That same day, they celebrated with a sold-out release show in their hometown of New York City. To celebrate the release of their new album, they have announced a run of North American tour dates beginning this September.

Gang Gang Dance will travel across North America making stops in Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Philadelphia, and others. They will also stop in Japan this October and play with rock band Deerhunter. They recently began their tour in Los Angeles this past Saturday, June 30th. During the weekend of September 6th through the 8th, the band will make an appearance at the Hopscotch Music Festival along with Grizzly Bear, Belle and Sebastian, Miguel, and more.

The last record Gang Gang Dance created together before Kazuashita was the acclaimed Eye Contact back in 2011. Their new album was produced by DeGraw and recorded in sessions across several New York studios and art spaces. Drummer Ryan Sawyer and Jorge Elbrecht joined the trio in recording the album.

The album’s title, Kazuashita, roughly translates to “peace tomorrow” and features the single “Lotus,” which according to NPR, sounds like “the chillest of screensavers look: pale blues and bright purples, dripping synths and echoing guitar over a bobbing trip-hop beat dubbed from a VHS tape. It’s like Gang Gang Dance picked up where it left off, especially as Lizzi Bougatsos’ voice winds through the track, elastic as ever, soon melting into blissful disarray.”

It also includes “J-Tree” which features audio of Shiyé Bidziil, who is one of the critical members of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. In the audio, she speaks about the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline through sacred Native American Burial lands.
