HOCO Fest 2018 has announced the full lineup for its annual event—taking place August 29-September 2 in Tucson, Arizona’s historic Hotel Congress. This year’s distinctive, curated festival will feature performances by Andrew W.K., Lil B, Dean Blunt, Black Marble, Destruction Unit and many more.
In addition to musical acts, the festival will host experiences that evoke the essence of desert life including sunrise after-parties, pool parties, vintage clothing and vinyl fairs, yoga classes, workshops and samplings from local cuisine.
Headliner and notable party advocate Andrew W.K. is best known for his 2001 album I Get Wet. The artist released his most recent record, You’re Not Alone, in March 2018, his first since 55 Cadillac (2009). During an interview with the Chicago Tribune, W.K. spoke to his thematic focus on partying. “From day one, to have this main theme of partying, it gave a focus for me. The beauty of the partying concept is that it’s very one dimensional and easy to grasp. Within that, you actually have been able to apply almost every aspect of the human experience and relate it to partying, which you can kind of do with anything.”
The singer, who also works as a motivational speaker, goes on to talk about his battle with depression, saying, “Every encounter we have, every phenomenon, is the party gods trying to mold our soul into a shape more worthy of being encased in a human body. There’s a reason there’s such thing as pain. If we can find some contrarian joy, even in the nightmarish parts of life, we’re victors of some sort. We’ve kind of won.”
Lil B, also headlining the show, hails from Berkeley California and began his recording career in 2004. The rapper, who, like W.K., works as a motivational speaker, has released six studio albums including Rain in England (2010), Angels Exodus (2011), I’m Gay (I’m Happy) (2011), Choices and Flowers (2012), Hoop Life (2014) and Black Ken (2017).
In an interview with HipHopDX, Lil B spoke about his positive outlook, saying, “All the positivity I had was a part of me, so now I bring it everywhere I go no matter what I do. Sometimes, it’s hard. Positivity is every day but you have to tackle things day-by-day. The moods may shift but positivity remains.”
