Marissa Nadler Announces New Album For My Crimes for September 2018 Release

Fans of Marissa Nadler’s idiosyncratic take on alternative folk will perk up with the new of her newest release, an LP called For My Crimes that will be released on September 28, 2018. The album will be released by Sacred Bones, Nadler’s longtime label, and Bella Union. The first single to be released from the new album is a wistful, finger-picked track that shares a title with the album, “For My Crimes.”

“For My Crimes” proves that Nadler’s rich vocals and a delicate guitar figure are all that’s required for a memorable tune. Her voice is layered for soothing harmonies as a powerful string arrangement glides into the mix nearly without notice. While the song transitions between the chorus, bridge and verses, Nadler’s finger-picking remains a static presence. Meanwhile, over this dramatic sonic landscape, the narrator begs to not be remembered for her crimes, an altogether a desperate and evocative plea. The song also features guest vocals from Angel Olsen. Other guests on the new album include Sharon Van Etten, Kristin Kontrol, Mary Lattimore and Patty Schemel.

The album was co-produced by Lawrence Rothman and Justin Raisen at Rothman’s studio in Laurel Canyon. It remains to be seen if some of the sunny vibes of the 70s Laurel Canyon sound rubbed off on Nadler, because “For My Crimes” is an altogether dark affair.
