Last year, gypsy-punks Gogol Bordello released the awesome Seekers & Finders album, a record that included an incredible duet with Regina Spektor on the title track. Now, the band has released a music video to the song. Directed by Nate Pommer, the video combines live footage of Gogol Bordello performing with Spektor at the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles earlier this year with ancient and mystical images that are tied to alchemy, hermeticism, and other esoteric knowledge. Alternating between stark black and white shots and full-color shots, the video manages to capture the passion and intensity that has made Gogol Bordello such an endearing band.
Musically speaking the song has a laid-back vibe, combining some particularly bright guitar work with plenty of accordion and violin flourishes. Of course, the centerpiece of the track lies in the back and forth between frontman Eugene Hütz and Spektor, who complement each other perfectly throughout the song.
Earlier this year Gogol Bordello released an acoustic version of the song, which is worth checking out as it highlights the beautiful vocal interplay between Hütz and Spektor.
Since forming in Manhattan’s East Village in 1999, Gogol Bordello has carved out an impressive musical legacy, combining punk rock with gypsy and traditional Eastern European music and developing a rabid fanbase.
Regina Spektor will be performing on a select number of tour dates this summer, with the singer-songwriter making appearances in Australia, Canada, and the US. Known for her powerful live performances, Spektor has developed into one of the most acclaimed songwriters in music, with her last release, 2016’s Remember Us to Life garnering some of the most substantial critical acclaim in her career.
