There may be changes brewing for the annual Ozzfest this year hardcore fans of the festival may see the brand move to a new location in 2018. According to a posting on social media and Loudwire, the former Black Sabbath frontman teased his followers on Twitter with a simple not so cryptic question.
On his official Twitter page today, Ozzy Osbourne posed the question, “Who would like to see @TheOzzfest happen in the New York area this year?” directing responses to be sent to his Facebook posting on the matter. The festival brand started out as a touring festival built on Osbourne’s name but has since expanded into a destination event. Recently, it combined with Knotfest for Ozzfest Meets Knotfest music weekends in California. With the latest teasing from Osbourne himself, changes may occur for fans.
In 1996, Ozzfest began as a two-day tour in Arizona and California. After that, it evolved as a touring festival that traveled across both the U.S. and the U.K. For a few years, Ozzy headlined the festival solo while other years, it was led by Black Sabbath. In 2006, Osbourne played just a few select dates which allowed for additional headliners to come on board. Then, in 2008, Ozzfest transformed into a single weekend destination event that took place in Frisco, Texas. The festival returned in 2010 with only a handful of dates worldwide, and 2013 was when we saw the birth of Ozzfest Japan. It returned stateside in 2016 with the first of two years of Ozzfest Meets Knotfest shows.
If Ozzfest is indeed coming to the East Coast sometime this year, it will be the first east coast Ozzfest in 11 years. Last time, the event happened on the east coast occurred on August 16th, 2007 in Holmdel, New Jersey at the PNC Bank Arts Center.
Osbourne is currently on his “No More Tours 2” tour which is scheduled to continue through 2020. Fans of Osbourne should be happy to note that there are a handful of East Coast performances scheduled on the recent tour in September including concerts in Wantagh, New York, and Holmdel, New Jersey. That last performance on Ozzy’s 2018 itinerary is on Oct. 13th in Las Vegas, Nevada.
