For those that are hot with anticipation for a new slab of shoegaze-y goodness from My Bloody Valentine, their set at Meltdown 2018 provided a slight preview. While there’s no guarantee it’ll appear on the new EP that Kevin Shields and company are preparing to release later this year, the band did play a new song at Meltdown 2018, according to Pitchfork.

The song begins in an up-tempo pace, showing off the brisker side of the band’s sound, before slowly bogging down into a slower, slightly-chugging guitar riff that leads into an uplifting conclusion. You can watch a small clip of the live performance below, and a full sample of the audio below that.

The set at Meltdown was the band’s first show in nearly five years, which occurred when the band initially reunited after lengthy hiatus in 2012 and released an album in 2013

titled mbv. festival, which was curated by The Cure’s Robert Smith, featured performances from MBV as well as Deftones, Nine Inch Nails, The Libertines, Manic Street Preachers, Mogwai, Placebo, The Psychedelic Furs, 65daysofstatic, Alcest, The Anchoress, Kristin Hersh, Kathryn Joseph, MONO and The Notwist.

The band will also play a handful of dates in the United States this summer, including two shows in Oakland and Chicago each, with the additional shows being announced after the initial appearance quickly sold out. They’ll also play at The Shrine near Downtown Los Angeles after their appearance at FYF Festival (which would have taken place just a few blocks away at Exposition Park) was cancelled along with the rest of the festival. There are also shows in Philadelphia, New York City and St. Paul, MN. Additionally the shoegaze band will play at Sonic Mania in Japan, a festival that has also booked Nine Inch Nails and Flying Lotus, plus Japanese experimental artist Cornelius. The final day of the festival is a veritable Brainfeeder mini-festival, with Flying Lotus, Thundercat, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Dorian Concept, Ross From Friends and Jameszoo all representing the label.
