Dita Von Teese has been the icon in our hearts since her start in 1990. Spanning a multitude of careers from burlesque, modeling, costume designing, to singing she has done it all. And according to some, Teese is the sole reason modern burlesque dancing made a huge comeback in the more modern era. Now, according to her recent press release, Teese has released a short musical film featuring the great Sebastien Tellier. Titled Dita Von Teese: A Musical Film featuring Sebastien Tellier, the film is a culmination of her music featuring four tracks from her debut music album that almost acts as a dreamlike sequence straight out of 1950s Hollywood. The film was released via Blackbook; see it in its entirety below.
The film opens with an elderly man staring at the lake before turning around to stroke the leys of a white piano. As he starts playing, the melody fills in the empty space of the percussive music, almost starting the film himself. Soon, Teese’s soft breath fills the vocals and we see her walk across the piano, taking the attention of the piano player.
The second song begins, this time with a little more pop synth. The scene begins and a love story unfolds between Tellier and Dita in an nearly colorized version of old Holywood.
The video, with its soft pop and even softer colors brings about an older aesthetic of film that seems to have since been lost amongst super powers and terrible rom coms. Seeing this film brings back the freshness that movies have been missing for a while now.
All music was recorded in Sydney, Los Angeles, and Paris with Tellier composing the music whilst Teese sings vocals. The short film was directed by David Wilson who has a history in indie’s greatest music videos from the likes of Arcade Fire, Tame Impala, and The Arctic Monkeys.
