For those unfamiliar, Geoff Barrow is a music producer most known for his work in British band Portishead. Over time, Barrow took part in other groups spanning from hip-hop with Quakers to his current endeavor <Beak. According to Brooklyn Vegan, has shared a new song to start the tease campaign for their new album.
The new single, titled “Allé Sauvage,” is a gorgeous electronic and instrumental piece featuring some light bass as well as what appears to be a looped and arpeggiated synth. As the bass and synth introduce the song, the drummer waits his turn to come in. The beat comes in and the song begins to take more of a shape as a feeling equivalent to the music of Giorgio Moroder rises before carrying even further into a head-bob.
Half-way through the piece, beautiful and glassy synth chords come in, giving the music a more spooky and cinematic feel. The chords, however, are not overpowering, but rather the beat and arpeggiation allow the new chords to float atop the entirety of the music, giving a dreamscape to the dark and dancing beat. The song develops slowly over the course of its seven minute run, but never is boring. The textures that the three musicians develop over the course of the song keep the ears leaning towards the sound. Check out the live studio performance of the song below.
According to Consequence of Sound, this live video release is only a precursor of what is to come. This new and heavy single will be the first of many tracks on the follow up from Beak’s last LP which was released in 2012.
To promote their upcoming Fall release, Beak will also be touring around the United States for the first time in five years. Check the whole tour list below.
