Death Grips Prepare for New Album with Two New Songs “Dilemma” and “Shitshow”

Death Grips have already shared plenty of new music from their upcoming new album Year of the Snitch, and today they’ve provided a double-dose of new music. Two new songs are being shared by the noise-rap group, whose membership includes Zach Hill, Stefan Burnett and Andy Morin.

The first of the new songs is “Dilemma,” which is the more accessible of the two. That being said, it’s still a trip into the darker side of alternative music, with a spoken intro from Andrew Adamson (who was recently reported as being in the studio with the group). He talks about recording with the band in Hollywood at Sunset Sound. The visualizer that accompanies the new song shows night scene outside the studio. The song combines twisting synth hooks atop a bellowing chorus, as if Wooden Shjips went hardcore. The song is a nice change of pace from the majority of the material released from Year of the Snitch, such as “Ha Ha Ha,” “Streaky” and most of all, “Flies.”

“Shitshow,” as the title would suggest, is a return to abrasive noise music that has come to define much of the Death Grips sound. The song begins with off-kilter drum beats and Burnett (aka MC Ride) mixing in some inhuman vocals. The song then takes a rapid fire turn with machine-gun pacing, MC Ride somehow managing to not trip over his tongue as he spits out rapid-fire bars. The madness is punctuated by the sample of a female voice proclaiming “It’s a Shit Show.”

UPDATE (6/20): Death Grips have released an appropriately-manic new video for “Shitshow.” The clip starts with a man being interrogated, with the police repeatedly asking him if he knows what city he’s in. The man finally responds “Hollywood.” Then the song kicks off, blasting the listener with the band’s seeming take on d-beat hip-hop. The video shows the man falling into a bush, then climbing up a hill as a totally normal family asks if he is okay, all the while a spinning photo of the Hollywood sign is sloppily superimposed over everything. It’s all very David Lynchian, and has to be seen to be understood:

UPDATE (6/21): The video for “Shitshow” has been pulled by Youtube. As you can see above, the video was removed from the service due to its sexually provocative nature. The band received a notice from Youtube, which they posted on their Twitter;

Those that feel the need to watch the video again and again are in luck. The video is still being hosted on Vimeo and can be viewed below:
