OctFest Announces 2018 Lineup Featuring The Flaming Lips, Yo La Tengo and Vince Staples

Pitchfork has announced the music and beer lineup for its festival, OctFest 2018. The two-day experience will take place September 8-9 on Governors Island in New York City and will feature 20 artists, culinary pairings and craft beer.

On Saturday (9/8), Brooklyn Vegan reports the lineup includes headlining act Vince Staples along with Saba, Preoccupations, Vagabon, Madison McFerrin, NAO, Standing on the Corner, Hatchie and Flasher.

On Sunday (9/9) the festival will host headliners The Flaming Lips and Nile Rodgers along with acts Yo La Tengo, BADBADNOTGOOD, Hop Along, No Age, Vagabon, Girlpool, Kamaiyah, Shopping, Julie Byrne and The Courtneys.

Headliners The Flaming Lips were recently in the news for their creative record packaging. During an interview with NME, frontman Wayne Coyne spoke about the possibility of incorporating the urine of Miley Cyrus in their next vinyl pressing. “You can’t really up the ante too much from human blood, but maybe when the beer is your own beer – the beer was made especially for the Flaming Lips and has our influence in its taste and colour.” Coyne goes on to say, “The next record we were talking about releasing was Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz record. We’d get a good amount of Miley’s pee and mix it with some glitter and put that in. I think that would up the ante. Don’t you?”

Additionally, the festival includes craft beer from 90 breweries with tastings included in the price of entry. “Each single-day ticket holder will receive 15 3oz samples from the festival breweries of their choice. Weekend ticket holders will receive 30, capped at 15 per day. Once depleted, ticket holders will be able to purchase additional samples for $1.50 per 3oz pour. Sampling hours are from 2pm-8pm.”

Favorite breweries attending the festival include U.S. bred Circa (Brooklyn, NY), Bronx (Bronx, NY), Blue Point (Patchogue, NY), Elysian (Seattle, WA), Goose Island (Chicago, IL) and Jolly Pumpkin (Dexter, MI) along with global stars Collective Arts (Hamilton, Ontario), Bira 91 (India), Aktien (Germany), and Radeberger (Germany).

Tickets are available at http://octfest.co/p/1 and run $75 for a single day and $140 for the entire festival.
