French pop-psych songstress Melody’s Echo Chamber (Melody Prochet) has released a new animated video for her single, “Cross My Heart,” off her upcoming sophomore album Bon Voyage, out June 15.
The new album follows Prochet’s 2012 self-titled LP and is in collaboration with Dungen’s Reine Fiske and The Amazing’s Fredrik Swahn and features Gustav Esjtes and Johan Holmegaard (both from Dungen) and Nicholas Allbrook (Pond).
The video for “Cross My Heart” continues the animated story which began in Melody’s previously released clips for “Breathe In, Breathe Out” and “Desert Horse.” All three clips were directed by Daniel Foothead and feature surreal imagery and a vibrant color palette to transport the viewer to Melody’s unique vision.
Consequences of Sound reports Prochet recently spoke about her creative process for the new album. “Swedish nature helped me to breathe and soothed me in times of anxiety. I had a majestic forest with a lake three minutes’ walk from my home. Recording sessions were a break in our lives, an escape from our frustrations as young adults, parents, musicians and embittered life jugglers. What transpired was a kind of modern fairytale full of duality: beautiful and disenchanted, happy and painful, internal and external, childish and mature, but also violent and measured. We had no structure and no limits and we stepped out of our comfort zones.”
Stereogum reports Bon Voyage marks the artist’s first effort since the artist suffered a serious injury in 2017 that required hospitalization and was forced to cancel a round of tour dates. Prochet’s family later released a statement saying, “Melody suffered a serious accident earlier this month and experienced a brain aneurysm and broken vertebrae. We are optimistic, but there is surgery still to be done, and she will be in the hospital for several months.”
