Deafheaven Unleashes 12-Minute New Song “Canary Yellow”

Deafheaven has just unleashed a new monster of a song, 12-minute Canary Yellow from the upcoming album Ordinary Corrupt Human Love. This is the second track that they have released after another long track of 11 minutes, “Honeycomb.”

Ordinary Corrupt Human Love is set to come out on July 13th. This album comes after their 2015 record, New Bermuda.

Don’t let the intro to the song or the name of the song fool you. The song is still very much a heavy metal song. The song probably gets its name, “Canary Yellow”, because it begins as a  dreamy, slow, sweet-sounding song, almost like the intro of a pop song.

The extended intro is a repetition of a few chord progressions. The song, after about three minutes breaks into heavy screaming vocals behind the music. The same chord progression seems to be the main focus of the song. The drum breaks into the forefront of the song along with the electric guitar at about five minutes in.

Towards about 8-9 minutes, there is a solo guitar and the keys and drums come in as a slow, lonely chord progression again. Then the band launches into a bridge with a different melody. The song keeps the listener guessing. At each pause, there is something new that awaits the listener.

In addition to this new song, the band will also be going on tour this summer with Drab Majesty and  Uniform and MONO. Below are the tour dates:
