Last Friday, Annie Clark, known as St. Vincent, appeared on BBC Radio 6’s Instagram account. During her appearance, followers asked the artist to play her favorite riffs.
St. Vincent, who at first lamented her missing guitar pick, went on to play Pantera’s “Cowboys From Hell.” According to Consequences of Sound, the singer then played Tool’s “Forty Six & 2” which she identifies as “My Shadow.”
Clark, born in 1982, studied music at Berklee College of Music, and went on to join Polyphonic Spree. Consequences of Sound reports she was later a member of Sufjan Steven’s touring band.
After forming her own band in 2006, she released her debut album Marry Me (2007), followed by Actor Giant (2009) and Strange Mercy (2011).
Clark also collaborated with music icon David Byrne and released an album in 2012 titled Love This Giant. The Guardian, Entertainment Weekly, NME and Slant Magazine all named the singer’s fourth solo effort, St. Vincent (2014), best album of the year. The 2014 record also won her the Grammy for Best Alternative Album.
Recently, the singer has received attention for her high-profile relationships with Cara Delevinge and Kristen Stewart. During an interview with Vogue in 2017, she talks about her first real vacation with Delevingne. “Let’s be honest, I’m pale as a vampire. I’m not a beach person,” she says. “I went to Turks and Caicos with Cara, and it was delightful. But I went kicking and screaming.” Clark goes on to say, “She made me swim in the ocean!”
