Odd Nosdam Releases Album of Rare Material Lost Wigs of Ohio

Hip-hop producer and artist, Odd Nosdam, has released a 40-track archival album, Lost Wigs of Ohio, filled with the artist’s unique deconstruction of pulsating beats and sonic variation. Along with work from Nosdam’s solo career, the record, released June 1, includes tracks from artists Greenthink, cLOUDHEAD, Reaching Quiet, Sole, Sage Francis, Mike Patton’s Peeping Tom, Beards of Canada, Jel and many more.

Nosdam (born David Madson), is a co-founder of the label Anticon, and released his first solo album, Burner, in 2005, and was followed by his second solo record Level Live Wires in 2007. According to Tiny Mixtapes, the new album spans the years 2000-2004, and get its title from his first solo record on Anticon. Nosdom recontextualizes content left on the cutting room floor and reintegrates his previous collaborations.

Lost Wigs has been critically received with Exclaim saying, “In between crafting his lauded instrumentals for cLOUDDEAD, several full-lengths’ worth of beats for cerebral rapper Serengeti, and a whole slew of remixes and solo albums that positioned him on the cutting edge of instrumental hip-hop and experimental ambient music, Madson has thrown away more worthy tracks than most people have ever made. And Lost Wigs of Ohio shows this in stunning colour.”

Nosdam recently spoke about the track “Vapes,” which the artist unearthed for the new record, saying the track “is all ’80s samples. Arpeggiated loops layered over the opening drum break of a lame-ass cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Billie Jean’ (see attached). It’s also the very last tune I put together on the MPC2000 before embarking on a cLOUDDEAD UK / Europe tour where, while sound checking in Leeds, smoke began pouring out of the vents of my MPC (sound guy plugged my live rig in without a proper voltage converter).”
