Chino Moreno, a member of Deftones, has released a solo track titled “Brief Exchange.” The new song is inspired by the DC Entertainment’s new graphic novel DARK NIGHTS: METAL. The novel is a series and is written by Scott Snyder and drawn by the creative Greg Capullo. This is Moreno’s first collaboration with DC and the song is produced by Grammy Award-winning Mike Elizondo, who has worked with Eminem, Twenty-One Pilots, film composer and former Marilyn Manson guitarist Tyler Bates. “Brief Exchange” features Bates on guitar, Elizondo on bass and Gil Sharone from Dillinger Escape Plan and sounds like a mix of Moreno’s Crosses project and the Deftones.

This is the 2nd release in this series of tracks inspired by DC Comics’ new graphic novel DARK DAYS: THE ROAD TO METAL. “Brief Exchange” follows “Red Death” by Brann Dailort, member of the Grammy Award-winning rock band Mastodon.

Just last year, Moreno broke his foot after falling off the stage at “Groezrock” in Belgium. he continued to play his set and only missed one show that year. That same year, Moreno and his band Deftones turned down an offer to tour with Korn. Jonathan Davies finally asked them; “why do you hate us?” Moreno replied by saying; “Dude, I don’t hate you. I love you guys, you’re my friends. But I don’t want to tour with you. I don’t want to be on the Family Values with you and Limp Bizkit.” Moreno continued to say; “The name of the genre was nü metal, so anything that is new is one day going to be old. And I didn’t to be old with it.”

Deftones were originally formed in Sacramento, CA and have released eight studio albums and have sold over 20 million albums worldwide. The band will play some festivals later this year including the Monster Energy Aftershock Music Festival, the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, TX, and Kentucky’s Louder Than Life Music Festival.
