After three years, the Canadian record producer, songwriter, and singer Grimes is teasing new music. The artists last album, Art  Angels, was released 2015. Grimes’ trid studio album Visions, released in 2012 was hailed as “one of the most impressive albums of the year so far” by the New York Times.

She has used elements of electronic, pop, hip hop, and experimental music in her arrangements. The range between these elements can be seen in her recent social media posts teasing her new music.

With social media being the primary communication between artists and fans, Grimes has been using this platform a lot lately. Grimes has just given her listeners a social media sneak peek of two new songs. She describes one as “the cheesy love some i was talking about that i don’t like but everyone else likes.” She describes the second song as an, “ethereal chav jam that’s like… a cyberpunk interpretation of the bajirao mastani movie.”

She has yet to name the songs but we may have a hint. The songs teased are most likely “adore u (beautiful game)” and “4ɶm” which were noted on the prospective track list that she shared last month on social media.

The first clip is an upbeat pop track that she released via video recorded on her phone. She posted this clip to Instagram. The second snippet of the song begins as a slow ethnic beat but then quickly transitions to the more “cyberpunk interpretation” that Grimes had so accurately and perfectly described.

The songs are assumed to be from the new album that she has been teasing. However, this upcoming unnamed album has been slow out of the gates. Grimes posted on instagram, “well no music any time soon after all…music industry is trash.” There have been issues behind the scenes that she was never able to discuss but she has been dealing with record labels and trying to get new music out soon. There is an album on the way, just no release date.
