As I Lay Dying Tease Return with Formerly-Incarcerated Singer Tim Lambesis

Ever since founding member and lead singer Tim Lambesis was released from prison last year, there have been rumors that As I Lay Dying would be getting back together. Lambesis, of course, was famously arrested and convicted for trying to hire a hitman to kill his estranged ex-wife, effectively ending the band once he became incarcerated.

Outside of a public apology, Lambesis has not said much in the media, with the social media channels of As I Lay Dying occasionally teasing something. Well, it appears that the band will be getting back together with its classic lineup as a new video has surfaced on the band’s Facebook page.

As reported by The PRP, the video seems to show the other four members of the band’s last lineup: guitarists Nick Hipa and Phil Sgrosso, bassist Josh Gilbert, and drummer Jordan Mancino. The short clip gives us a glimpse of some new music, but it did not show any of the band member’s faces. However, many in the metal community who are familiar with the band noted that the tattoos and signature guitars looked exactly like those of Gilbert, Sgrosso, and Hipa, strongly suggesting that they have reconciled with Lambesis.

After Lambesis was incarcerated, Mancino, Gilbert, Sgrosso, and Hipa formed a new band called Wovenwar with Shane Blay, with the band releasing two records: a self-titled debut and Honor Is Dead. Sonically, the new group maintained much of the same metalcore fury as their previous group, but Wovenwar still had trouble gaining the same kind of popularity that As I Lay Dying had during their heyday.

As I Lay Dying became one of the biggest metal bands in the world, riding the popular wave of metalcore during the early ’00s and establishing themselves as one of the leaders of the genre. Their last album came in the form of 2012’s Awakened.
