When bands release albums, the wait between each one tends to be a long one. This is not the case for the sludge metal band from Louisiana, Thou. Fans of the band won’t have to wait long. Four years after releasing their album, Heath, Thou returned earlier this month with The House Primordial. According to Brooklyn Vegan is “some of the harshest, noisiest music they’ve ever made.”
The band had been talking about a follow-up for a while now and it appears that 2018 is the year they get the job done. The long wait should make fans happy because not only is Thou releasing one EP, but the 10-track EP is one of three that the band plans to release this year. All three EPs will lead up to their next proper full-length album.
Each EP is said to be a created with a different style, and according to the group, all three EPs will be represented on the official record. Inconsolable is Thou’s second Ep and was released this past week. The record came out via Community Records and unlike their previous EP is tamer and filled with a softer acoustic vibe.
Thou, though, appears not to be stopping. The band, though just one month away from releasing their third EP, titled Rhea Sylvia, set to come out on July 27th via Deathwish, is sharing with fans the first single off the EP called “The Only Law.” The third EP will focus on their grunge side and it shows with the first single.
It is interesting to note that all three EPs released by Thou this year are done under different labels. It makes sense when you listen to each one. Each EP has different sounds, each with a different tone making each one distinct on their own.
The full-length record, the band is calling Magus, will drop on August 31st via Sacred Bones. Again, far from its release, the band has shared the first single from the record titled “The Changeling Prince.” You can stream “The Changeling Prince” as well as “The Only Law” down below.
