Friendly Fires Release New First New Music in Six Years With “Love Like Waves” Video

It seems to be the year in which bands that have been on an apparent hiatus are deciding to return to the music world. One of those bands joining the ranks of returns is none other than English indie rockers Friendly Fires.

The band began together in 2006 and in 2008 their first single “On Board” received a feature in the North America commercials for Nintendo’s Wii Fit as well as a feature on the PlayStation 3 racing game Gran Turismo 5. Friendly Fires’ tv career was not over, though, as their song “White Diamonds” was placed into the second season of the ever popular tv show Gossip Girl. Following, three more of their pieces were placed in various programs with the tracks being “Jump in the Pool,” “In the Hospital,” and “Lovesick” respectively.

In late 2008 the band released their first self-titled record with a rebooted 2-disc version that came out early 2009. That year the album was certified double gold in the UK charts, which rightly earned Friendly Fires a nomination for Best Breakthrough Award on The South Bank Show as well as Best Dancefloor Filler at the NME Awards. That summer of 2009, the band was nominated for another award, this time the extremely prestigious Mercury Music Prize, but unfortunately only came close as Speech Debelle won. Lastly, Friendly Fires received two more nominations from the Brit Awards: Best British Group and British Breakthrough Act. However, after the release of their 2011 Pala album the band went on an indefinite hiatus…until now…ish.

This past April, Friendly Fires announced a return from their small break with their new single “Love Like Waves,” which was produced Mark Ralph. Today, however, the band released an incredible music video to accompany their recently released single. Check it out below.

The video opens with a shot over the clear blue that is the ocean. Soon vocals as well as a dancebeat come in and we are taken to what appears to be a vacation and a dance party. Ed Macfarlane sings while dancing into the crowd; the audience smiling and jamming to the catchy club-esque beat that drives the song. As the video progresses one can tell this video is somewhat of a story as we follow young adults on vacation making their way to the Friendly Fires dance party. If you’re looking for a new song to dance to, look no further and just open up those ears.

Jeremy Bacharach: Born in Los Angeles, CA, Jeremy has always been a lover of music. After graduating Hamilton High School with a focus in technical theatre, Jeremy ventured forth to Portland, Oregon so as to study at Lewis and Clark College. After bouncing around majors, he decided to focus on music composition and theory for the purpose of understanding why he loves what he loves. Aside from his major studies in composition, Jeremy also partook in sutdying Jazz Guitar, choir, and piano for the pure joy (and the requirements). Being able to write about what has become the main focus in his life only brings more joy to Jeremy as he is extrmely grateful to be a part of mxdwn!
