Riot Fest has both whet the palates of festival connoisseurs and provided clues to the 2018 lineup with the release of their hilarious teaser video.
Tonight, May 30 at 8:00 p.m. CDT, festival organizers will announce the first wave of artists to perform in 2018. For now, both comic relief and pertinent information about the likely lineup can be found in the teaser, which, according to TimeOut, features Chicago rockers Archie Powel and the Exports as a polka band covering well-known songs.
In the video, the pseudo polka band crashes Chicago hotspots Pinwheel Records in Pilsen, JBTV studios, Wiener’s Circle (where the band is unceremoniously escorted out of the building) and the home of the White Sox while enthusiastically covering tracks “Shipping Up to Boston” (Dropkick Murphy’s), “We’ve Had Enough” (Alkaline Trio), “Call Me” (Blondie), “Loser” (Beck), “Great Balls of Fire” (Jerry Lee Lewis) and a possible rendition of Elvis Costello’s “Radio, Radio.”
Consequences of Sound speculates, based on scheduled tours and media postings, that other bands for the festival likely include A Perfect Circle, Bullet for My Valentine, Gary Numan, Killing Joke, Rancid, The Exploited and the Jesus Lizard.
Riot Fest, founded in 2005, and curated for true music fans, will showcase a diverse group of food vendors, sideshow performers, rides, craft beer and more. The festival will take place September 14, 15 and 16 in Chicago’s Douglas Park. Riot Rest 2018 3-day passes go on sale tonight, May 30, at 8:00 p.m. CDT. Passes are available as general admission as well as three VIP tiers at Bit.ly/RF18-Tickets and RiotFest.org/Tickets.
