LUMP, a joint project with Laura Marling and Mike Lindsay have released a new single titled “May I Be The Light,” off of their self-titled debut album. The new song is the third off of the album, following “Late To The Flight” and “Curse of The Contemporary.” “May I Be The Light” will be the last song released before its album release this Friday, June 1st.
In a press release, Marling says the new single was the weirdest one to pull together from the piece of music that Mike had.” She continues to say “It’s in 5/4 and took a bit of getting my head around. The ‘Sign of The Times’ melody was one of those things that had been rolling around my brain for years and I finally found the right place for it.” The song showcases Maling vocals with synths, drums, and flutes.
The band came about after meeting at a Neil Young show in London in 2016. Both Lindsay and Marling admired each other’s work. Lindsay was in the middle of composing an intricate new sound, but the project was in need of a lyricist and vocalist. He quickly invited her to step into his world, and a few days later they retreated to the studio to unite their energies and create LUMP. The duo was also inspired by early-20th-century Surrealism and the absurdist poetry of Edward Lear and Ivor Cutler. The group is also hitting the road this summer in Europe with multiple dates already sold out. Check out the tour dates below.
