Morcheeba Announce First New Album in Almost Five Years Blaze Away for June 2018 Release

Trip-hop fusion band, Morcheeba, has announced, via the group’s Facebook account, their first new album in five years, Blaze Away, will drop June 1.

Morcheeba, formed in the nineties by Skye Edwards and brothers Paul and Ross Godfrey, are known for their unique mix of genres including trip-hop, electronica, and rock. The group have previously released a total of eight studio albums including Who Can You Trust (1996), Big Calm (1998), Fragments of Freedom (2000), Charango (2002), The Antidote (2005), Dive Deep (2008), and Blood Like Lemonade (2010).

The group has changed over time. In 2003, Edwards left to pursue a solo career and subsequently released four albums. Morcheeba reunited for a reunion tour in 2012 after which Ross Godfrey and Sky Edwards began collaborating independently of Paul Godrey.

In an interview with Songwriting, Ross Godfrey discusses working with brother, Paul, saying, “I can’t see me working with my brother again. The last Morcheeba record was really hard work and I think it kind of broke down, really. He wants to do something completely different to me. It’s the classic ‘musical differences’, I think. Paul likes electro and upbeat things, and I’m more into organic, downtempo, psychedelic guitar things. So I should imagine that pretty much is the end of Morcheeba – I can’t see that we’re ever going to make another record, as a three-piece anyway.”

The split in artistic vision between the two brothers seems to have stuck, and The Morcheeba Facebook account currently lists Skye Edwards and Ross Godfrey as the only current members.
