Wrong – Feel Great

And it does feel good

Miami’s Wrong certainly does their music right. Boasting members of Torche and former members of southern sludgy metal band Kylesa and Capsule, Wrong mix the energetic cacophony of noise rock with bits of alternative metal to produce their temperamental sound. Their debut EP Stop Giving was just the mild introduction to such fieriness, and after a self-titled release, Wrong has reached an even grittier point with this junior album Feel Great. Despite the harshness their music brings, it does make for some good feels.

The heat of their locale definitely comes through from the beginning, kicking Feel Great off with a play on Public Enemy’s “Welcome to the Terrordome” with “Errordome,” a blasting pit full of snares and guitar solos. “Culminate” was the first single to come from the album, and is a nice mid-tempo switch from the opener.

Wrong manifest their gritty energy through making different techniques their focal point, like on “Pustule,” where a hefty bass-only breakdown is a particular highlight in the track. There’s also “Crawl Instead,” which possesses a hardcore and brawny flair. With “Zero Cool,” the track fades out about halfway through and turns into something entirely different, switching crafted noise for crafted density with charred guitar tones. The album ends with “Anaerobic,” which is somewhat the band’s homage to being totally not-sober with a tough core drum beat that’s more than suitable for the hardcore pit.

For a band that does recall on model bands of the genre like Helmet and Unsane, Wrong definitely do their own thing with what they’ve learned from bands prior. Wrong represents Miami in a proper way, bringing the heat and spiciness of the region, communicated in a way that isn’t typical for the city, like reggaeton or typical dance music. Feel Great makes you feel great in a way you wouldn’t think it should, but it’s nice that it does.
