Eels Announce Summer 2018 Tour Dates with Release of Acoustic Version of “Today Is The Day”

Eels will begin a worldwide summer tour in support of their new album, The Deconstruction, beginning May 28 in Pomona, California with additional shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and more.

The group has also released a special acoustic version of “Today is the Day” which reduces the song to its essential elements: haunting melody coupled with the nuanced vocals of singer Mark Oliver Everett, known as E. The bared down acoustic version magnifies the track’s lyrics, revealing the song’s optimistic tone: “Today is the day it starts right her/ Don’t gotta a thing to worry about now/ Today is the day it starts right here/ Come on man, and don’t you worry now.”

Everett, who writes and produces much of the group’s work, formed the band in California in 1995. Over the years, Eels have produced a total of twelve studio albums including their latest effort, The Deconstruction, which finds Everett reflecting on personal baggage and deconstructing one’s sense of self. In an interview with NPR, Everett discusses the album’s concept: “We spend most of our lives after we’re born slowly building up these defenses and walls around ourselves,” Everett explains. “I just thought, ‘What’s underneath all that? What would happen if you tore down those defenses?'”
