Colin Newman and Malka Spigel Collaboration Immersion Release New Video for “Propulsoid”

Immersion, the Brighton-based duo formed by Wire singer and guitarist Colin Newman and his wife Malka Spigel of Minimal Compact are getting ready to release their new album Sleepless this summer.  To prepare for the album launch, the two have premiered a new video for their single “Propulsoid.”

The band had this to say about the track; “The roots of Immersion lie in abstract techno, but somehow over the years we’ve acquired the motorik of krautrock without ever consciously deciding on that direction. ‘Propulsoid’ is a kind of propulsive mythical beast, an unholy alliance of Klaus Dinge’s beats and acid squelch filtered through the ever present MS-10. We guess it’s a kind of dance music! The video was made by us in the same spirit as we make the music and write these words. It’s about speed, light & repetition.”

The video, released earlier this week, is an aesthetically inspired piece. There is time-lapse footage of the streets and cars moving past, a girl spinning around in a field, jellyfish, escalators going up and down. All these visuals mesh together while electronic music fills the air around the listener. Time and space have no meaning here, and the visuals feel right at home. Watch it again and again and find something new to ponder.

Sleepless is set to release on June 15th via swim and will feature guest appearances from Matt Schultz of Holy Fuck and collaboration with Gil Luiz and Asi Weitz of Hexenschuss.
