Andy Warhol Founded Publication Interview Magazine Shuts Down

Interview Magazine, which was founded in 1969 by Andy Warhol and British journalist John Wilcock is being shut down. Both its print and web publications will end.The publication is liquidating its assets through Chapter 7 bankruptcy. According to BrooklynVegan Former editorial director Fabien Baron sued the magazine for $600,000 making the publication the subject of tabloid drama. After being with the publication for almost 10 years Baron resigned from Interview in April. Allegedly in in court papers Baron says that he had been hired to save the magazine in 2009. Baron says that he did, getting the circulation to over 200,000 subscribers. Baron n claims that the company owes him over $500,000 in invoices over the last three years. Baron also alleges that Interview owes his stylist wife Ludivine Poiblanc $66,000. Allegedly Baron and his wife’s lawsuits are not the only ones that the company is dealing with. The other alleged lawsuits involve unpaid wages that the company owes.

The magazine was known for its unedited interviews with artists, musicians and others. The magazine was also known for the artwork on the covers. Interview was sold to Brandt Publishing in 1987 by Andy Warhol. According to mxdwn Los Angeles singer-songwriter Juliette Commagere debuted her new song, “Big Star,” on Interview Magazine’s website on July 23rd, 2013.
