Suuns New Video for Video for Trippy New Song “Look No Further” Showcases Cuban Youth with Footage from Werner Herzog’s Workshop

Canadian band Suuns have released the official video for their single, “Look No Further,” from their latest album, Felt, released in March 2018. The video, takes a markedly neo-realist tone, by re-framing Lorraine Price’s (“Last Woman Standing”, “Inside These Walls”) footage from Werner Herzog’s workshop in San Antonio de los Banos, Cuba, in 2017.

The footage, shot in a Cuban village that was previously a housing development for textile factory workers, uses kids (non-professional actors) who are prompted to talk about magic. The urban landscape coupled with the authentic simplicity of children and the song’s hypnotic psychedelic melody invokes the enigmatic nature of youth.

Suuns, formed in Montreal in 2007, have previously released four studio albums including Zeroes QC (2010), Images Du Futur (2013), Hold/Still (2016) and their most recent, Felt (2018).

NPR says of the band, “Suuns requires a certain patience and a tolerance for discomfort. Like sculpture in reverse, the beauty here is piled on top of a stout cube — but just look at the lovely striations in that marble.”

Felt, recorded at Breakglass studios, was cut in five sessions over several months, and mixed by St. Vincent producer John Congleton. In an interview with Exclaim, the band’s drummer, Liam O’Neill says of the new album: “It was done in very short spurts. It was four days here, take off a few months to clear our heads, four days next month, so that was easy too — we could have our lives. Recording Hold/Still was very much like our lives were on hold. We were in this tiny world for a really long time. Whereas with this, our worlds were still open.”

Suuns will begin touring in support of Felt starting May 22 in Allston, MA. Check out the new video for “Look No Further” and the band’s tour dates here:
