Uniform and The Body are collaborating for a new project that unveils its first outcome — the first single “Come and See,” a haunting, eerie melody that creeps up on you with its disturbing chord displacement. Check below to listen to Come and See.”
As longtime fans of each other, Uniform and The Body actually underwent a joint tour, before which Uniform vocalist Michael Berdan and Lee Buford from The Body started corresponding regularly during its planning phase. This would result in Berdan asking Buford if he and The Body co-founder Chip King would be interested in making a collaborative record with Uniform. Buford agreed, and the two groups began work on Mental Wounds Not Healing.
The title of the record is taken from a line from the chorus of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train.” Many of the titles are references to horror literature and cinema, with nods to Shirley Jackson, Jack Ketchum, and Elem Klimov. The songs have a common theme of feeling trapped in one’s own mind, projecting images of the same doomed future without being able to save it. It is about the familiarity that hopelessness, anxiety, and depression can bear that seem like a permanent part of one’s identity.
