Aesop Rock Multiplies Himself in New “Klutz” Video

Aesop Rock just released a new music video for his song, “Klutz.” The song is an anthem for those young teenagers and young adults who are stumbling through their everyday and who don’t really know what they are doing in this life. This music video does a lot with visuals. Aesop Rock is multiplied and in conversation with himself throughout the course of the video.

“I am a man who uses the techniques of a bat to navigate” are the introductory words to the track. This line really exemplifies how he feels. The background of the music video, black with green undertones, is also layered with geometric shapes that fade in an out of the background. This reminds the viewer of school as he reads books, watches videos and more. In the background are multiple images of him doing other things. It may seem like the viewer’s attention is split and maybe that is the point of the video, to make someone else feel what he feels.

This song is about growing up and feeling like you don’t have your life together and like you aren’t going anywhere. To be honest, that is how a lot of kids feel these days. Aesop Rock put these feelings into words and to song. This song is a high school anthem, and for those of us who are a little bit older. Then from the high school viewpoint, he moves to the adult viewpoint and describes feelings of not good enough and out of place in your workspace.

He talks about reflection, self-care, and pushing through. The song is ultimately about redemption. The song ends with these words, “Are you starting to be part of the kinesis?” Are you a part of the motion? This line is up for interpretation. Let it take you where it takes you.
