Baltimore-based synth pop trio Future Islands have just announced an enormous world tour spanning both Europe and North America, which will take them from the beginning of June to the very end of September (time to wake up Billy Joe Armstrong from his annual slumber).
The band has partnered with Plus 1, an organization that was born from Arcade Fire when the band wanted to help Haiti following the devastating earthquake. The organization “brings together artists, thousands of volunteers, and millions of concert goers together with this same small act—a $1 donation from every concert ticket sold” according to its website. The money gathered will be pledged to organizations focused “equity, dignity and access to communities who need it.”
In addition to the truly great cause that Future Islands will be championing throughout this tour, there is another reason why the band has has been touring so much lately, behind their fifth LP, 2017’s The Far Field.
“I don’t really have a ‘happy place’; a happy memory is also something you long for, something that’s not there, so I don’t really have them,” said frontman Samuel Herring, in an interview with Rolling Stone. “I go to the coast when I’m home and it makes me feel like a kid again. It’s beautiful to hear the sounds, to smell it… But it all becomes the longing for something that’s not there. My happiest place in this world is the stage. That’s where I have purpose. It’s what makes me know I deserve to be – not that I need to be – on this earth.”
With such a profound adoration for touring, there is no wonder fans will be able to see so much of Future Islands in the upcoming months. Check out the full list of dates below.
