The Used Abstract Dance Movements in Video for “The Nexus”

Progressive rock band, The Used, have released a Kabuki-esque video for the song, “Nexus,” from their new album, The Canyon, which was released October 27, 2017 through Canyon Records.

Lisa Mann, who directed the video, recently told Nylon, “The concept for the video is a visceral love story of two identities battling for supremacy and independence only to be locked in patterned loops together throughout time told through experimental movement,” She goes on discuss how her collaboration with choreographer William Yong, who worked on the previous Canyon videos, brought her vision to life: “I love how ‘Nexus’ is so epic, almost like a film score, so I didn’t want the video to be confined. I wanted it to have a vast loneliness to it.”

The Used, who formed in Orem, Utah, in 2001, have released seven studio albums including The Used (2002), In Love and Death (2004), Lies for the Liars (2007), Artwork (2009), Vulnerable (2012), Imaginary Enemy (2014), and most recently The Canyon in 2017.

Singer Bert McCracken recently spoke with Nylon about the video: “The true connection between art and reality requires a passion for projecting and connection subjective ideas into one visual objective. She [director, Lisa Mann] always seems to see the true picture.

The Used has been the subject of controversy amid reports they have filed a restraining order against former guitarist Justin Shekoski. According to NME, Shekoski, who parted ways with band earlier this year, has been removed from press shots and from their list of members on Facebook.

The band released an official statement via Twitter:
