Ever since the tragic death of Prince, fans have been wondering what would happen to his massive collection of unreleased material. While there have been few announcements recently, including the release of the original version of “Nothing Compares 2 U,” there has not been much else that has been announced until now.

As reported by Consequence of Sound, Jay-Z will be overseeing the release of a new compilation of unreleased Prince recordings, which will debut exclusively on the Tidal platform in 2019. This is a surprising turn of events considering that Jay-Z and Prince’s estate have been at odds for a long time, with Jay-Z openly criticizing the estate for pulling out of a deal for exclusive streaming rights on the Tidal platform. Prince had released some exclusive albums on Tidal before his passing and Jay-Z has claimed that Prince had struck a deal to have Tidal be the exclusive platform for his music, a deal that the estate backed out of.

Controversy continues to swirl around the tragic passing of Prince, who died due to an overdose of the opioid Fentanyl, with his estate suing the hospital that treated him days before his death as well as Walgreens, for inappropriately prescribing the Fentanyl.

Since launching Tidal as a rival to other streaming services, Jay-Z has courted controversy at every turn, with Kanye West dropping out of the platform in addition to the streaming service being accused of artificially inflating streaming numbers for Jay-Z and Beyonce.

Jay-Z has kept a low profile so far this year, making an appearance at the Coachella festival to perform with Beyonce, in addition to announcing massive joint headlining tour, dubbed the “On the Run II” tour.
