Death Grips Releasing Strobe-Heavy New Video for “Streaky”

Avant-garde hip hop group Death Grips have released a new track and video, “Streaky,” off their upcoming album, Year of the Snitch, due later this year. Mxdwn recently reported Shrek director Andrew Adamson and Tool bassist Justin Chancellor are contributing to the new album. The new video for “Streaky,” takes the experimental genre to the next level and features strobe light, glitter and a bed. Additionally, the corner of the video features what appears to be a gyrating figure and a feather boa. Could this spell the death of disco? The new song follows a smooth rhythmic arc with sounds reminiscent of Primus.  According to Fader, the band collaborated with Les Claypool (of Primus) on the single “More Than The Fairy” in 2016.

Death Grips, which formed in Sacramento, CA, in 2010 has released 5 studio albums including The Money Store (2012), No Love Deep Web (2012), Government Plates (2013), The Powers That B (2015), and Bottomless Pit (2016). Pitchfork said of the 2016 record Bottomless Pit, “they stitch together one of their most cohesive grotesques ever, renewing their focus on songcraft, rather than chicanery.” Pitchfork goes on to say, “Bottomless Pit is Death Grips’ most accessible record since The Money Store.” The new album, aptly titled The Year of the Snitch, is expected later this year.
