With a legacy of both Nirvana and Hole behind you, it’d inevitably be quite difficult to avoid that looming shadow. However, Frances Bean Cobain, visual artist, model and daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, has begun to show an inclination towards embracing that inheritance.
In a new Instagram post on her account space_witch666 (suitably edgy), she shared a performance of an as-of-yet untitled song, with a low-quality camera and acoustic guitar to match. Though she had posted the song before in early April as a vocal performance, she almost immediately pulled it down. This month’s version had the addition of the guitar as well as some altered lyrics.
She captioned the post with “not hey there delilah,” indicating to some fans that perhaps she was also planning on posting a cover of the Plain White T’s 2006 hit song. She had covered both Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” and Jimmy Eat World’s “The Middle” in a similar fashion in the past.
In the comments section, she announced that she is planning on releasing the song (hopefully with a title this time) at some point. In another poignant response to a comparison between her and her parents, she wrote “You are probably right in the respect that people probably can make assumptions or conclusions about my art because they are informed about my life’s trajectory. Not everyone has to like it, that’s not a requirement of making and receiving art.”
