Parliament/Funkadelic Leader George Clinton Will Retire In 2019

Fans of funk have a little over a year to witness the greatness that is the godfather of the genre, George Clinton. According to Billboard, the 76 year old funk musician will officially retire in May of 2019.

The announcement shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone that follows George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic. “This has been coming a long time,” said Clinton in a statement. “Anyone who has been to the shows over the past couple of years has noticed that I’ve been out front less and less.” Clinton recently underwent pacemaker surgery, putting even more perspective on the retirement announcement.

While Parliament and Funkadelic are largely recognized for their accomplishments decades ago, they have continued to release new music. Recently, Clinton released a new song with Parliament called “I’m Gon Make You Sick O’Me,” which featured the rapper Scarface. George Clinton has dates scheduled with his band through August of 2018.
