Kelis, known for her hit song “Milkshake,” has accused her ex-husband, rapper Nas, of mental and physical abuse throughout their marriage. In a recent interview with Hollywood Unlocked, the singer alleges that her marriage with Nas had “a lot of mental and physical abuse.” In the same interview, she continues to say that the relationship was “An intense low….we had a lot. It was really dark. A lot of drinking. A lot of mental and physical abuse and it got to the point where if I wasn’t pregnant, I might have stayed with him.”
According to Brooklyn Vegan, Kelis says that after seeing Rihanna’s face following her domestic relationship with Chris Brown, Kelis decided to move on. She states: “When the Rihanna and Chris Brown pictures came out I thought about coming out because I also had bruises all over my body. But I didn’t say anything because I’m private. But seeing her the way she looked and then looking at myself… I felt embarrassed.”
Co-parenting is another issue between the couple. Kelis implies that Nas is only there when there is a “photo opp.” Listen to the full interview below:
