Gwenno Gives Cornish Pagan Pop a Psych Twist in New Video for “Eus Keus?”

Rising songstress has Gwenno has released a new music video for her Cornish pagan pop song, “Eus Keus?” which translates to “Is There Cheese.” “Eus Keus?” is the psychedelic heavy second single from her latest album Le Kov, out now. ‘Eus Keus?’ is a pagan pop song celebrating 10,000 years of cheese offering as a gift to the gods. We call on the people of Kernow, and beyond – chant with us!” Gwenno says of the song. The video for the song does just that as it shows Gwenno chanting with her lyrics as if the words are a magical spell that calls upon the people to join her along with two people with masks that appear that look like owls. Her last single, the mysterious “Hi A Skoellyas Liv A Dhagrow ” which means “She’s A Shed Full Of Tears” a nod to retro 70s pop refers to electronic artist Aphex Twin, after naming some of his songs in the Cornish language from his 2001 album Drukgs.

Her album, Le Kov, which means place of memory, is completely done in the Cornish language. Gwenno had researched its history and the role women had played at the time and felt it was her duty to write the album in Cornish. She is one of few to know the language. The album has been well received, with The New York Times describing it as a “whispery, Celtic-tinged vocal to eerie electronica and Brooklyn Vegan calling it “utterly gorgeous, mossy and alien, existing outside space and time, yet very human” Gwenno has a unique and distinct sound that will be remembered for many years. Here is to 10,000 more years of cheese with Gwenno. Watch her music video for ‘Eus Keus?’ below:
