The enigmatic loneliness of the desert met an experimental edge when Bradford Cox, of the band Deerhunter, sat down with Vogue’s Rachel Hahn to discuss their upcoming LP, “Why hasn’t everything disappeared”, according to Pitchfork. During the interview, Cox detailed the plan to record the new album in Marfa, Texas, with Cate Le Bon as producer. Cox explained how the environmental ennui of the desert landscape would take center stage on the new album. “The desert just has a lot of disappeared things in it. It’s where things have disappeared to.”
Deerhunter, an American rock band out of Atlanta, Georgia, and Le Bon, a Welsh singer-songwriter, are no strangers to each other or Marfa, Texas. Both artists recently played Marfa Myths, an annual music festival founded in 2014 that brings together a diverse group of artists that cross creative barriers, in mid-April. During the Marfa festival, Cox and Le Bon recorded a collaborative EP, something resident artists do at the festival every year. The EP smashed genres by mixing indie-pop with punk-pop. The rapport must have been strong and the two plan to start recording this weekend, with the rest of the band arriving Sunday, in the high desert Oasis.
