Coachella Camping Delayed Until 2 AM on Friday Morning After Weather Advisory Due to High Winds

The Coachella Valley, Music, and Arts Festival are about to enter its second week of art and music festivities, but those attending found themselves faced with a dilemma. A National Weather Service warning went out for heavy winds beginning Thursday causing officials of the festival to delay the opening of the on-site campgrounds.

Normally, the campgrounds in Coachella would be open the day before the festival starts, which goes from Friday through Sunday for two consecutive weekends every Spring. Instead, the campground was closed until Friday. Those who were attending Coachella the second weekend were not allowed to enter their campground until 3 AM this morning.

Wednesday afternoon, the organizers of the festival posted on their official Twitter page as well as their official website that; “opening of camping is delayed due to high winds. For everyone’s safety camping will now open on Friday, April 20th at 3 am.” The post came with a link to the campgrounds portion of the website.

The weather warning was in effect 11 a.m on April 18th until 2 a.m on April 20th. Though, the strong winds impacted the Coachella Valley in Indio, California since Monday, April 16th. A warning like this is meant to keep those in the surrounding area and for those attending the weekend festival safe, but despite the safety notice, those people attending Coachella had a lot to say about the delay.
