During BBC Radio 1’s Rock Show today (April 15th), the American rock band A Perfect Circle premiered their brand new track titled, “So Long, And Thanks for All the Fish.” If the title sounds familiar, it should. It comes from the satirical sci-fi series The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. The song was shared with the host Daniel P. Carter’s “Rockest Record.”
Looking at the record, Eat The Elephant, the semi-upbeat track is placed smack dab between The Doomed and TalkTalk. It feels like a happy pause before the band plunges right back into what they are known for. The lyrics are offbeat but it fits in a weird out placed sort of way.
According to Maynard James Keenan, APC’s frontman, who Carter interviewed during his Rock show, the track was one of many tracks, the group’s primary songwriter Billy Howerdel had around in a folder. The song, reminded Keenan of REM’s classic “End of the World As We Know It.” He hoped this would be their “End of the World” track and it may just be it.
