The New Project Of Laura Marling & Mike Lindsay Titled LUMP Announces Debut Self-Titled Album for June 2018 Release

Say hello to LUMP, the new collaborative project from singer-songwriter Laura Marling and Mike Lindsay, producer and founding member of Tunng and Throws. The duo have announced they are releasing a self-titled album on June 1st, releasing the promotional single “Curse Of The Contemporary,” and its accompanying video. The fully animated video was created by award-winning motion graphics designer, Esteban Diacono, including the eponymous “LUMP”, a pink, hairy, sasquatch-like character. LUMP dances enthusiastically to the pulsing bassline of the song, against a constantly rotating backdrop of cityscapes and California roadsides.

LUMP was born from a meeting between Lindsay and Marling following a Neil Young show in London in June 2016. They discovered they were fans of each other’s work, and Lindsay was working on a project in need of a lyricist and vocalist. A few days later they retreated to the studio after which the idea of LUMP was fully formed. The album is inspired by early-20th-century Surrealism and the absurdist poetry of Edward Lear and Ivor Cutler; it’s a compelling narrative about the commodification of curated public personas, the mundane absurdity of individualism, and the lengths we go to escape our own meaninglessness.
