Chelsea Williams’ new video for “Fool’s Gold,” which we are premiering today, pairs an introspective folk-pop song with a captivating search for identity. The clip opens with Williams setting off on a journey to find a missing person, carrying a flyer with their likeness, though with a mysterious disguise. As she travels across Los Angeles on her bicycle in search of the goggled and skeleton bandanna-ed person of interest, she encounters a series of unique characters on the streets. She is finally able to locate the person on a rooftop in Downtown Los Angeles, where she hands them a compass. The person reveals their identity and… you’ll have to watch to find out who it is:
“I usually like to leave my music open to interpretation,” said Williams about the song. “But “Fool’s Gold” has been the subject of a lot of questions. On first listen, you might think it’s about loss or disillusion. But for me, it’s really about being foolhardy enough to keep pushing forward when all the signs are pointing the opposite direction. It’s about that fire inside you that just won’t quit.”
“Fool’s Gold” is the third song off of Williams’ 2017 album Boomerang. While “Fool’s Gold” has more of an indie-pop affect, Williams has a fairly diverse catalog with a definite country bent. The singer-songwriter a unique background in the music industry, highlighted by a successful street performance campaign in Downtown Santa Monica, CA which saw her sell 100,000 copies of her albums. Her latest album was release in August 2017 on Blue Élan Records.
