Patrick Paige, the bassist/producer of alternative R&B band the Internet as well as a bandmate of Syd’s, has just announced that he will be stepping into the limelight with his own debut project. Patrick Paige II will be releasing his own solo tape, titled Letters of Irrelevance, on May 18th and in light of the news, he’s released a single featuring Syd and Kari Faux.
“On My Mind/Charge It to the Game” is a combination of tracks that shows off his watery guitar skills and his swallowed-up flow. The songs feature guest spots from Syd and Kari Faux. The single is also an ode to his little sister, for whom he wrote the song because he doesn’t “know how to communicate” after the passing of their mom.
According to a statement, Paige began writing more after going through a tragic time in his life. “3 years ago my sister and I lost our mother, I went through a bad breakup, and fell out with a couple of family members all at once,” noted Paige. “I hit the lowest point in my life, but still had my friends around me (including my band). During that time, I also experienced living on my own for the first time and that made things more difficult at times. During that summer, I had a cat named Yuka and she saved my life. I’ve tried to take from that experience and channel it the best I can and write about all of those moments and thus Letters Of Irrelevance was born.”
Patrick added, “I try to stay as honest and vulnerable as possible through all of my music to help the listener really empathize with my story. I feel it’s important to share my story in hopes I can someday help someone who may also be at their lowest but realize the storm doesn’t last forever, or to help those appreciate who they have around them as much as they can because tomorrow is not promised to any of us.”
The project will also be featuring appearances by Forte Bowie, Khadi Don, Andris Mattson (of Moonchild), Durnand Bernarr, Paris Strother (of King), Dave Rosser and Nick Green of NickeyDavey, and a previously recorded A capella of Patrick’s mother.
